DIESELDURST is a kind of a (fragmentary) paraphrase and a farewell to the ‘global’ ecology of the 20th/21st Century, the post-colonial turbo-capitalism and the way it is described. Paraphrase in the sense, that the acting figures are extracted from documentary photographs of living and working conditions in the so-called third world, transformed to their appearance in the picture. A swan song as the image spares out the work equipment of the protagonists and ‘reduces’ them to their sheer physical existence and action. DIESELDURST, an almost insatiable desire of the industrialised world, implies the existence and the presence of machines, only these need the fuel, the raw material for it produced in their home countries. Those machines are produced far away, then brought here to gain and produce or let produce again what is to be exported. Profit is made elsewhere. Elephants were once used (in some places they still are), machinery has taken over, the diesel scandal was still! not in the news headlines, when the picture was created. It is absent in the picture, a concave mirror in its focus and composition. The picture shows what it shows, half the rice…

DIESELDURST ist eine (fragmentarische) Paraphrase und ein Abgesang auf die ‘globale’ Ökologie des 20./21. Jahrhunderts, des postkolonialen Turbokapitalismus. Und ihrer Darstellung. Paraphrase, weil die agierenden Figuren herausgelöst sind aus dokumentarischen Fotografien über Lebens- und Arbeitsverhältnisse in der sog. Dritten Welt, um dann in das Bild hineintransformiert zu werden. Abgesang, indem das Bild ihnen ihre in den Fotografien noch gezeigten Arbeitsmittel nimmt und sie auf ihr Sein bzw. ihr körperliches Handeln zurückwirft. DIESELDURST, ein schier unstillbares Verlangen der industrialisierten Welt, impliziert die Existenz und Anwesenheit von Maschinen, denn nur sie benötigen den Kraftstoff, der zum großen Teil aus den Rohstoffen ihrer Heimatländer gewonnen wird. Die Maschinen werden jenseits des Lebensumfeldes der hier Arbeitenden produziert und dann gebracht, um wiederum zu produzieren bzw. produzieren zu lassen, oder abzubauen, was erneut exportiert wird. Profit wird anderswo gemacht. Elefanten waren früher (manchmal gibt es sie noch), die Maschinen haben übernommen, vom Dieselskandal war in den Headlines noch! nicht die Rede, als das Bild entstand. Im Hohlspiegel des Bildes und seiner Komposition sind sie abwesend. Das Bild zeigt, was es zeigt, half the rice…
