70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
A World Wide Video-art Project!
On 10 December 1948 the UN-Council adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each year this day is marked as the International Day of Human Rights. To mark this years 70th anniversary Dutch Foundation White Cube created an art-project, that allows artists and audiences from each corner of the world to celebrate this event.

Using the internet artists sent in their art-videos about human rights to Foundation White Cube. A jury selected 21 videos for this project and on its turn the foundation sends these videos back into the world again. Venues in Nepal, Italy, Pakistan, Germany, Hong Kong and the Netherlands will show these videos to their audiences for free.

Creator of this project, Jeroen van Paassen explains:”To celebrate human rights it is essential that there are no barriers. Entrance fee can be a barrier for some audiences. We offer these videos for free to our partners, so that they can show them for free. Human Rights are universal, therefore it should be inclusive.”

2016 was the first year Global Videos was organized. Now in 2018 it is held for the 2nd time with 21 art-videos. Each of these videos last maximum 4 minutes.

FLY ME – UPSTREAM

Im Looping auf dem Flügel des Kunstfliegers wird die Welt selbst Rotor. Auftrieb. Sturzflug. Spiralen. Lautloses Gleiten. Rudern mit den Armen, das Gleichgewicht zu halten, sinnlos in der Schwerelosigkeit. Nichts ist real, alles (konsumierbar) fragmentiert. Oder alles Eins. Wir setzen alles daran, uns zu täuschen. Wir trauen unseren Augen. Wenn wir die Augen schließen, sehen wir Nachbilder. Wir haben die Wahl. Wir können uns manipulieren (lassen), oder auswählen und selbst entscheiden.

Auf meinen Bildern treffen Fragmente einander, isoliert oder in Beziehung, fremd oder vertraut, nehmen Raum für sich in Anspruch oder weisen über den Bildraum hinaus. Sie mögen für sich stehen, sich verbünden oder in ihren Beziehungsgeflechten Paradoxa bilden, erzählen oder schweigen. Auf jeden Fall sind sie da. So wie die intensiven Farben, die Formen, Spuren, Gesten, also die Malerei, und das verwendete Material. Sie verweisen, treffen Aussagen, behaupten (sich), machen ihre Angebote. Die verbindende Energie ist elementar, die Energie der Komposition, der (Re-)Konstruktion. Der Grad der Kontrolle über sie ist von Bedeutung, im Arbeitsprozess eine Gratwanderung, wie im Leben, bildentscheidend, wo das Bild nicht selbst entscheidet.

Die Ausstellung in der Galerie d-52.raum für zeitgenössische kunst zeigt vom 16. März bis zum 1. April Acrylgemälde, Mischtechniken, die Videoinstallation island, eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem Medienkünstler Nikolaus Gojowczyk-Groon, und als Sondertermin am 29. März Kurzfilme von Thomas Bartels in der Blackbox, dem Kino des Filmmuseums Düsseldorf. Wolfgang in der Wiesche hat für die Filme Musik und Sound-Design gestaltet.  Text: Wolfgang in der Wiesche
