Artist Wolfgang in der Wiesche -2

“The idea is to create a unity out of multiplicity, much like in music, where rhythm, harmony and melody combine to form a whole. It is probably no coincidence that the artist himself is a musician who cannot think of painting and music separately.
One can extend the motifs forwards and backwards and we don’t know where we are in the composition. This openness brings it into a permanent dynamic that we can understand and enjoy as freedom, even if it challenges us to decide for ourselves on a reading. Our own responsibility is an inseparable part of the essence of freedom. Confronting us with this ambiguity of the concept of freedom makes Wolfgang in der Wiesches’ painting immensely contemporary.”
Benjamin Dodenhoff (Curator, Ludwig Forum for International Art)

„With paradoxes, … not strictly, but playfully, works … Wolfgang in der Wiesche. He allies different motifs, styles and forms of expression in his paintings. In his works, writing and text become image, and images of very different kinds form themselves into a narrative that is never logical, never linear, but always associative and allusive.“ Michael Stoeber (art critic)

“Someone once told me that I had to decide between art and music. I realised that both are vital for me and no one can tell me to choose. I have played music from an early age and had classical training on violin/viola, piano, harp. Guitar and other instruments, I learned by myself. I studied art and played music in bands. I started composing film music when I went travelling. Then came theatre music and soundscapes for installations. And free compositions. I have been with it until today. Everything in my work has become more diverse. I work as a painter, a graphic artist, a photographer, a media artist, a composer and a musician.
.
I lived in China, India and Germany for more than 10 years, worked as a technical director at international music festivals, had my own radio show on NDR, Hamburg, on rock and underground music from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and more.
.
With music I learned to cooperate with others. I was disappointed that this was not a matter of routine in artistic work. I don’t compete much and don’t understand competition well.
.
Diversity doesn’t threaten me, I find uniformity and thoughtlessness threatening.”
